ABOUT – The original name of the India Gate is All India War Memorial and it was formerly called Kingsway. It is a 42 meters high building established on 10th February, 1921 and it is situated in New Delhi, India. There is a Amar Jawan Jyoti, which is known as the flame of the immortal soldiers is located under the India Gate consists of a marble base on which a cenotaph is situated, on the top a self-loading rifle stands on its barrel with a helmet of unknown soldier. The Marble base is bound with the 4 urns, one of which holds a flame (Continuous burning flame).
REASON BEHIND – The main story behind the construction of this monument is that, during the world war 1 from 1914-1921, India lost 82,000 soldiers of its Indian army and after the end of the war India Gate was built as a memorial to those 82,000 soldiers who died in the war to serve their nation. The name of the 13,300 servicemen including some officers and soldiers of UK (United Kingdom) were inscribed on the gate.
